The Espresso Shot:
Welcome to The Espresso Shot—our series of quick-fire insights designed to be read in the time it takes to pull a double shot. Today, we’re tackling three common myths that might be holding your morning routine back.

3 Myths About Your Morning Brew:
Myth 1: Espresso has more caffeine than Drip Coffee
The Truth: Ounce for ounce, yes. But a standard 8oz cup of drip coffee actually contains more total caffeine (about 95–120mg) than a standard 1.5oz double shot of espresso (about 60–80mg). If you’re looking for a maximum jolt, the big mug wins.
Myth 2: Dark Roast is “Stronger”
The Truth: “Strength” is a measure of brewing ratio, not roast level. Dark roasts are more bitter and “roasty,” which people associate with strength, but light roasts actually retain more of the bean’s original caffeine and complex floral/fruity acidity.
Myth 3: You should store your beans in the freezer
The Truth: Stop! Coffee beans are porous. Freezers introduce moisture and odors. Every time you open that bag, condensation forms on the frozen beans, damaging the oils that create flavor. Store your beans in an airtight, opaque container at room temperature.
